In 2020, Ryan Kuhn '70, the photographer of the original image from fall 1969, provided this description:

"I took this photo after sneaking through a hole in the fence between Psi U and the oval track surrounding the football field. I am on that track facing the home bleachers side at about a 45-degree angle.

The airborne receiver is John Warmbold, Class of 1970. He is close to the goal line – that looks to be the 20-yard marker well behind him. I’m sure he caught that pass.

But I also recall he went on to score. Now -- seeing this photo again after many years -- I doubt he could have regained his footing. And then there’s that opposing player lurking behind him.

So, I may be confabulating a miraculous recovery and end-zone run after a spectacular catch. Whether in fact John did go on is probably buried somewhere in a half-century old athletics department archive folder."

The photographer was Ryan Kuhn '70, then serving on the Trinity College Yearbook Committee, which produced the Trinity Ivy at that time.
